After showing good pace in Austin, Niklas Ajo continued with his good feeling at the start of the Grand Prix of Spain. Always among the fastest riders on the opening day, the Avant Tecno KTM rider finished fourth in the first free practice session and tenth in the second. That took him to tenth overall in the combined timesheet.
In the first free practice of the weekend, the Avant Tecno KTM rider came out determined to work hard, taking the top spot with a 1’48.788 lap nine minutes from the end. He remained at the head of the table for eight minutes, before he was eventually ousted. Nevertheless, his pace was always under the 1’50 mark, in a positive development.
The second session was more complicated for the Finn. An unusual blackout of the facilities at Jerez, and high temperatures reaching 45° on track, caused the riders and teams to suffer. Niklas Ajo put in 17 laps of the Andalusian track and ended up with the tenth fastest time of the session: 1’48.980.
The Grand Prix of Spain continues tomorrow with the second day of work —including the qualifying session as the main course.

”I am rather satisfied with the first practice session today. If we compare the two sessions, then the results contrast completely. In the morning everything was going well and I was comfortable on the bike. But in the afternoon the conditions changed and nothing was the same. We need to work on finding better grip with the tyres ahead of tomorrow, because I started to slide around just a few laps in. That makes it difficult to find feeling.”
